The biggest SUV in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup is a proper 7-seater, which competes with models like BMW X7 and Lincoln Navigator (keep in mind the upcoming Audi Q9 as well). One of the things we liked about it is the wide engine lineup, which is now slightly less impressive, given the changes that were introduced with the 2022 model year. The new model comes with one of the mid-range options, equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Of course, we are talking about the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580, which won’t be available.
Other than the shorter engine lineup, the 2022 model comes largely unchanged. This SUV offers three more engine options, but that’s not the only quality it brings. This SUV is large, spacious and incredibly refined. Furthermore, the list of standard and available equipment is impressive, especially when it comes to tech goodies.
The new model has already arrived in most markets. In North America, it starts at around 78.500 dollars.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 won’t arrive. Instead, this full-size SUV will come in familiar variants. In all models, the overall layout remains the same. The current generation is still fresh and competitive, as the 2022 model represents the third production year. It offers the same styling that was introduced with the 2020 model, which follows the brand’s latest design language.
Practically, one of the biggest novelties is that the base GLS 450 is now available with AMG Line and Night appearance packages, while there is also a new color option called Cirrus Silver. Mechanically, things remained pretty much the same. The GLS is all about comfort, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun to drive. Of course, there is a bit of body roll, which is normal for a vehicle of this size. Still, the level of athleticism is also surprisingly high.
Interior
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 is no longer available, but the rest of the lineup continues in the same way. all models come with impressive interior quality. The super-fine materials are all-around the cabin, while the level of craftsmanship level is at an impressive level too.
All three rows of seats offer plenty of passengers in all three rows. The first two accommodate taller passengers with ease. The seats are massive and supportive, super-comfortable on longer journeys. The third row also accommodates adults pretty easily but there is a little bit less headroom compared to the first two. This means that taller passengers may have little trouble.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 17.4 cubic feet of space with all of its seats up, 48.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 84.7 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. While that’s a decent amount of space, BoF rivals like Navigator and Escalade offer way more.
Features
The 2022 model has brought no bigger changes in terms of standard equipment. So, base models come equipped with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, Bluetooth, eight USB ports, a 13-speaker Burmester audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, and in-car communication system, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The list of standard equipment also includes convenience features like a sunroof, quad-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and a parking damage detector.
Among options, you can find a whole lot of upgrades. Some of the highlights are goodies like a panoramic sunroof, five-zone climate control, the MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 26-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Engines
The engine lineup starts with a familiar 3.0-liter V6, which puts out 362 horsepower and also comes equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for better driving dynamics. This version, known as the GLS 450, has enough power to satisfy a vast majority of drivers, especially if we consider that 0-60 time goes just around 5.5 seconds.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 is no longer available, so the next engine on the offer is a pretty big step up. We are talking about the most luxurious version of the SUV, the Maybach GLS 600. This one comes with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that puts out 550 horsepower.
Finally, there is the AMG GLS 63, which also uses the twin-turbo V8, but features a max output of 603 horsepower.
All models come equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a great job too.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Price
The base GLS starts at around 78.500 dollars. As there is no 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 on the offer, the next version on the offer is the AMG-badged model, which costs around 133.500 dollars. Finally, there is the Maybach version, which costs over 160.000 dollars.
