Chevy’s largest crossover is about to receive a full redesign very soon. The test mule has been caught on public roads a few times and it is pretty much for sure that the production version will arrive later this year, which indicates that the new generation will debut as the 2024 Chevy Traverse. At this point, the officials are still trying to keep as many details about the new model a secret but there are already a couple of things that seem like a certain thing, and we are going to share them with you in the following paragraphs.
Of course, one of the things that come to mind is the overall design approach, which won’t change. The Traverse will continue as a large three-row crossover, with the same layout. However, it will be updated in many ways, whether it’s about mechanics or in-car tech features. Even a new powertrain is expected, despite that the officials are still quiet about it.
2024 Chevy Traverse Redesign
So, we know for sure that this redesign will bring a lot of novelties, but most of them should be evolutionary. First of all, the new model will continue riding on the familiar C1 platform, which will be significantly updated, in order to offer a much better driving experience. The overall approach will remain the same, so once again Traverse will feature front-wheel drive in base variants, with a transversally-mounted engine. On the other hand, we count on a new suspension setup, which should make this large crossover more engaging and more fun to drive.
As for the aesthetics, the test mule still wears camouflage, so even though it’s been spotted in public, it doesn’t show much. It is still under a complete cover, though it’s easy to notice that the overall shape won’t change much. Even the dimensions should remain largely the same.
One of the important novelties we should mention is that Chevy is working on a new trim level called Activ. That will be an off-road version of the new SUV, something that has become quite popular among all carmakers, so Chevvy won’t make an exception. The test mule of this version has also been spotted and it comes with tow hooks and a few more exclusive styling details. Despite the camouflage, we can clearly see a reshaped bumper, which will provide a better approach angle. Furthermore, we presume this version could bring minor suspension upgrades, increased ground clearance, additional traction control modes, and similar things.
Interior
If Chevy wants to make the new Traverse more competitive, it will have to make it look much nicer from the inside. Simply, the current generation may be super spacious but it lacks style and build quality, something that has become a must, even in the mainstream segment. So, we definitely expect a more attractive design, along with finer materials and much better build quality. Of course, the 2024 Chevy Traverse should also bring all kinds of new tech features, including a new infotainment system. if we consider that the smaller Blazer comes standard with a 10.2-inch infotainment screen, the new Traverse should come with something even bigger, at least in higher trim levels.
On the other hand, this SUV never had a problem with space. Thanks to the long wheelbase and impressive overall dimensions, the current generation already offers a spectacular amount of passenger and cargo room, so we presume that the new model will continue in the same way.
2024 Chevy Traverse Engines
This is definitely one of the most intriguing aspects of the upcoming next generation. Namely, some sources suggest that the new model is about to carry on with the good-old 3.6-liter V6, which makes sense if we consider that the platform will also remain the same. However, there are also rumors about this 310-hp engine being replaced with something more modern and more efficient.
By that, most sources think of the new 2.7-liter turbo-four, which already debuted in several GM models. We presume that the new Traverse would come with a version of the engine that puts out around 300 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, which would significantly improve driving dynamics if we consider that the currentV6 offers “only” 271 pound-feet of torque.
On the other hand, the current 9-speed automatic transmission will probably carry on, with minimal modifications. As mentioned, base models will feature front-wheel drive, while an AWD system will be available.
Some sources also speculate about the possibility to see a plug-in hybrid version, but the officials are still quiet.
2024 Chevy Traverse Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Chevy Traverse will arrive sometime in the second half of the year, probably fall. Base models should cost a little bit over 35.000 dollars, while SUVs like VW Atlas, Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot will certainly remain some of the key competitors.
