The outgoing generation of Chevy’s subcompact crossover has been around for way too long, so it was about time to see changes. The 2024 Chevy Trax is coming completely redesigned, with a completely new layout that will not include just a new styling, but also a completely new architecture that will bring all kinds of technical novelties, including the new powertrain.
Of course, the interior will be all-new as well, way more upscale than before. Furthermore, the new generation will grow in size significantly. It will be longer and with a significantly longer wheelbase, which will certainly have a positive impact on passenger and cargo space.
The production of the brand-new 2024 Chevy Trax will start already this February, while the sales start soon after.
2024 Chevy Trax Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Chevy Trax will receive a complete overhaul. The new generation will bring a completely new design, with lots of significant changes. Of course, the first thing to talk about is brand-new architecture. In this aspect, the new Trax won’t bring any surprises, as it will ride on the new VSS-F platform. A lot of parts will be shared with the TraiBlazer, including the powertrain.
However, the Trax will be larger, with a wheelbase that goes beyond 106 inches, which puts it close to the compact SUV category. Of course, there is also a completely new styling, far more inspiring when compared to the previous generation. The new front end follows the brand’s new design language, with headlights and a grille that looks pretty similar to models like TrailBlazer, Blazer, and Traverse. On the other hand, the rear end comes with a bit of a sloping roof, while the exhaust pipes are now hidden behind the rear bumper.
Of course, the cabin will also bring a completely new design. The outgoing model is too old, so it’s no wonder it features an outdated cabin layout, with lots of low-rent materials. The new cabin, on the other hand, looks significantly nicer. You can notice that the new dashboard is driver-oriented and that it utilizes massive screens and other tech features. The materials feel nicer, while the dashboard shape definitely looks more attractive. Base models will come with an 8-inch infotainment screen, while higher trim levels are about to feature a bigger 11-inch infotainment screen, along with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster.
As we already mentioned, the new generation will feature a significantly longer wheelbase, which will result in way more passenger space in both rows. Of course, the main difference will be in the second row, which will offer three more inches of legroom. The cargo area will bring a notable 12-percent increase and in numbers, which should be around 21 cubic feet behind the second row and 55 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
2024 Chevy Trax Engines
So far, everything seems like a notable upgrade but things seem to be a little bit different under the hood. In this aspect, we will actually see a bit of a downgrade. Namely, instead of the 155-horsepower turbo-four, the new generation will rather use TraiBlazer’s turbo-three-cylinder unit. We are talking about an engine that puts out around a 1.2-liter unit that puts out around 137 horsepower and comes coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. That should be enough for a 0-60 sprint in about 9.5 seconds, while the average fuel economy should go around 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Also, it’s good to know that front-wheel drive will be the only configuration on offer.
2024 Chevy Trax Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the production of the 2024 Chevy Trax will start already this February, and the sales should begin soon after. We estimate that base versions will cost around 21.500 dollars.
