Honda’s three-row SUV has been among the most popular models in the segment for a long time and the current generation still makes good numbers, even though it’s been around for a while. From what we know so far, this will change soon, as the new generation is on the way. The test mule has been spotted on the road and it will hit the next year. We expect it to hit the market sometime the next summer, as the 2024 Honda Pilot.
This redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties and improvements, starting from the new platform, new design, etc. Naturally, the interior will be all-new as well, while we also count on all kinds of new tech features. When it comes to powertrains, there is also a chance to see some interesting novelties, including a hybrid powertrain.
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Honda Pilot could arrive already next summer.
2024 Honda Pilot Redesign
The current generation has been around for a while and this redesign will bring all kinds of novelties. First of all, the new Pilot will ride on the new Global Light Truck architecture, the same one that underpins the new Acura MDX. The two models have always been closely related, so we are pretty sure that the new 2024 Honda Pilot will also grow in size. This primarily refers to an additional 2.8 inches of MDX received with the recent redesign.
Of course, this won’t be the only benefit of the new platform. We expect further improvements regarding ride quality, especially in terms of handling. Also, we presume that the new architecture will open up new possibilities regarding powertrain and electrification.
Exterior
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Honda Pilot will feature a longer wheelbase, probably around 113.8 inches. On the other hand, the overall size shouldn’t change much. From what we can see on the test mule, the overall shape looks pretty similar to the current model, though some details make it look bolder and more aggressive. Another thing that’s easy to notice is the overhangs, which are shorter and make this SUV look sportier.
The test model still wears complete camouflage. Despite the heavy cover, we can see that the new front end will look notably different. It will feature a more upright design, with a little bit more conservative design approach regarding headlights and grille. The rear end will probably follow the same path, and you can also notice a nice rear spoiler on the hatch.
Interior
Of course, this redesign will also bring a completely new interior. The current model features very good build quality and nice materials, though the aesthetics look a little bit less modern compared to the younger rivals. That’s why we expect to see a lot of improvement in this aspect. The new dashboard should bring a more modern look, with attractive aesthetics, nicer materials, and lots of new tech features.
The longer wheelbase should provide more legroom, even though the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. The new generation will also come with three rows of seats. The front row, as well as the second one, should be very generous in this aspect, while the third row should be typically tight for the segment.
When it comes to cargo capacity, it’s hard to expect any bigger improvement, considering that the current model is already impressive in this aspect. For reference, the current generation is good for about 18.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 55.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and 109.2 cubic feet of the total cargo space.
2024 Honda Pilot Engines
As we’ve just mentioned, the new platform will open up some new possibilities regarding powertrains and that particularly refers to electrification. However, we are pretty sure that the base models will carry on with a good-old 3.5-liter V6. This engine currently puts out around 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque but we presume we could see a slight power increase in the new model. Also, we will see a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to electrification, many sources suggest a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The details are still unavailable, but we presume that the system would combine a turbo-four engine with an electric motor(s) and that the total output would go over 300 horsepower.
2024 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
The 2024 Honda Pilot will hit the market next year and we believe that could happen already in the summer. When it comes to the price, we presume that the base models will go slightly under 40.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Chevy Traverse, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, etc.
The new generation of Honda Pilot has been spied alongside of the 2024 Acura MDX Type S.
