Subaru’s biggest crossover, the Ascent, has just received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2023 model year. The update has brought some novelties in various aspects, starting from the new styling and more features. As a result, we can expect the current generation to remain in production for another year or two, with the 2024 Subaru Ascent carrying on without any significant changes.
While there won’t be any major updates, we can still expect the 2024 Ascent to offer familiar design characteristics. The refreshed exterior is now more attractive, but the car still retains its spacious and functional cabin, which is equipped with a long list of standard features. The Ascent’s fuel economy is also impressive, especially considering that Subaru’s famous all-wheel-drive system is included as standard equipment.
As there won’t be any significant changes for the 2024 model year, we can expect the launch date to be scheduled for the last quarter of 2023. The Ascent will likely continue to be a popular choice among families who value space, functionality, and versatility.
2024 Subaru Ascent Design
One of the most notable updates for the 2023 Ascent was the refreshed styling, which included a new front end and new wheels. The front end is particularly interesting, with new lighting elements and a new front fascia that give the car a more modern and aggressive look. All this clearly indicates that the 2024 Subaru Ascent shouldn’t bring any particular change, though there is always room for minor tweaks, in terms of new color options, or even maybe a new appearance package.
Despite these updates, the overall layout of the car has remained largely unchanged, including its mechanics. This includes the suspension setup as well, which is on the soft side. At the same time, there is a good portion of athleticism, because the soft suspension setup comes in a combination with a boxer engine, which provides a pretty low center of gravity. Finally, let’s not forget the excellent AWD system that ensures fantastic grip in all conditions.
Interior
The interior of the Ascent also received some novelties in terms of tech features, such as a larger infotainment screen. The 2024 model year will carry on without any significant updates to the interior, but that’s not a bad thing as the Ascent’s cabin is already elegant and highly functional. The materials are fine, and the build quality is also pretty good. All in all, this is the most luxurious Subaru you can buy, in terms of interior refinement and equipment.
The car’s three rows of seats are standard, and all of them are quite comfortable. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is high, providing excellent visibility. The second row is as spacious and provides plenty of room for adults. The third row may not be all that spacious but still offers a lot of functionality, just like other mid-size SUVs do.
When it comes to the cargo area, the Ascent offers about 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 47.5 cubic feet with the third row folded down, and 86.5 cubic feet of total volume. We could say that’s about average for the segment.
Features
Although it’s always possible to see changes in this aspect, we don’t believe that things could drastically change in the next year. So, most of the things should remain the same as in the current model. To remind you, the 2023 Ascent already comes with a long list of standard equipment, including a vertically oriented 11.6-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, four USB ports, tri-zone automatic climate control and keyless entry.
Among upgrades, you can currently find goodies like navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, two additional USB ports for the third row, remote start, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, a universal garage door opener, second-row climate controls, a panoramic moonroof and many more.
2024 Subaru Ascent Engine
Under the hood, the 2024 Subaru Ascent will continue with a familiar 2.4-liter turbo-four engine, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and provides good performance. The engine feels peppy, while the transmission works well. The car’s driving dynamics are good, and it has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
The standard all-wheel-drive system works extremely well, and the car’s fuel economy is also pretty good, offering around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is better compared to most rivals with all-wheel drive.
2024 Subaru Ascent Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Subaru Ascent will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 35.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Hyundai Palisade, VW Atlas, GMC Acadia, etc.
