Subaru wants to sell more than 200k Foresters in 2025. That is a tough task, but after the redesign, not impossible to achieve. The current version is from 2018, and the 2025 Subaru Forester is about to start the sixth generation. All the previous series lasted 5-7 years. The fifth-gen Forester went strong in first few years, but the sales numbers are dropping. Well, this is not the only compact crossover with decreasing figures. But, the Japanese carmaker is ready to compete and there are tons of changes to improve the position in the market.
First of all, the small SUV will be revisited. Most of the lines of the current version are out and the new Forester is somehow boxier. The front fascia takes the most changes. Leaked images show a familiar interior. The new crossover uses the same layout as the Crosstrek and Impreza. Still, the 2025 YM is modernized compared to its predecessor. Photos can’t tell us much about the size. However, we can expect the same drivetrain under the hood. The 2025 Subaru Forester hybrid is likely to debut with a system built around a 2.0-liter petrol unit. The best package is Wilderness, set for 4×4 drive in tough terrains.
All the details will be available when the crossover debuts. The crossover will be unveiled in the US at LA Auto Show (Nov 17-26). Sales won’t start so soon. In the meantime, we will see the Forester premiere in Australia and other countries where it is pretty popular.
2025 Subaru Forester Changes: What We Know So Far?
The front fascia is all-new, with a new design of headlights and a larger bumper. The 2025 Subaru Forester could be slightly larger, but this is yet to be confirmed. While some were saying the previous model was something between a crossover and a station wagon, the upcoming one won’t split opinions. Boxy appearance is a sign of a crossover. In teased images we could see 19-inch bronze wheels. These might be an optional upgrade, or standard if you pick Sport or Touring trims.
A 11.6-inch screen is at the center of the dashboard. The layout is very similar to the Outback and Crosstrek crossovers, including seats, steering wheels and control buttons. We can compare other features and options to the siblings. However, Forester will be a unique build.
Under the Hood
According to pre-debut news, the 2025 Subaru Forester will keep a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine. It is not a surprise, knowing how popular and durable those units are. Since the crossover seems bigger, engineers will probably enhance the powerplant. The new model could hit 200 hp. A 4WD is standard, like we got used from all the Subaru vehicles. A CVT gearbox sends power to all four corners of the crossover.
2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid
One of the key upgrades to the upcoming model is a hybrid engine. We know that the Japanese company is building such a system in partnership with Toyota, the leading player in this segment. So, expectations from the 2025 Subaru Forester hybrid are very high. The base system is pretty efficient already, returning 29 mpg. Bigger and heavier, the new Forester needs more power, which increases fuel consumption. A hybrid configuration is the best choice to keep the gas mileage at respectable levels. Our guess is that 2025 Forester is getting at least 35 mpg.
2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness
Subaru is going to revisit trim levels and options for the new crossover. We can compare the Forester to Crosstrek or Outback, models that got new versions recently. Still, the most impressive edition is the 2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness.
There are unique wheels with all-terrain tires. The vehicle is lifted, which makes it perfect for off-road adventures. Skid plates are protecting the underbody. Special details are all around the vehicle. The interior is also unique, with water-resistant materials, floor mats, and some advanced equipment, such as a wireless charging pad or 360-degree camera. The Wilderness trim also had better towing capacity compared to other models. A hybrid engine is an unlikely option for the off-road specialist.
Forester Debuts at LA Auto Show
The new crossover is set for a debut. Leaked images didn’t come out by accident. Anyhow, we will have a chance to see all the details on Nov 17, when the Los Angeles Auto Show starts. Subaru will keep a few things for future updates, such as precise trim levels options. You can also expect a hybrid unit to be in LA.
After the redesign, the 2025 Subaru Forester will cost more than its predecessor. The base version could start from $30,000. We still don’t know what kind of a hybrid will be under the hood, so it is not easy to guess the price of this one. Anyhow, the Touring package remains the top trim and its price will be over $40,000 before you start upgrading it.
I love my Subaru Outback . I have been considering a new Subaru Forrester . However the price is not fitting into my budget. So I will make a move in 2 to 3 years and buy one after depreciation has been paid by a previous owner.
