After the recent presentation of the small but super-capable EX30, we are all eagerly waiting for the debut of the 2024 Volvo EX90, which is expected to be the company’s new flagship model, positioned above the XC90, which is expected to remain in production for some more time. This will be Volvo’s all-electric take on the mid-size SUV segment and the expectations are high.
As we’ve just mentioned, this will be an SUV, or a crossover if you like. Compared to the current flagship, it will most likely feature a little bit bigger dimensions, along with a notably different design approach in terms of aesthetics. The interior will also be significantly different, while the key selling point should be a duo of all-electric setups. According to the officials, both will feature a dual-motor electric setup.
We are still waiting for the officials to announce the exact launch date, but we presume it could happen already by the end of this year.
2024 Volvo EX90 Design
So, the 2024 Volvo EX90 is coming as a brand-new model, a flagship SUV in the company’s lineup. Unlike the current XC90, this will be an all-electric model, designed like that from scratch. And for that reason, it will benefit a lot from the fact that the platform and technology will be provided by Geely, a Chinese giant company that should provide more than competitive all-electric performance, range and battery features. The latter particularly refers to the charging speed, which is the aspect we expect Volvo’s new model to be an advantage over key rivals.
As for the exterior design, we already mentioned that this model should feature slightly bigger dimensions than the XC90, but we also count on a significantly different look. Of course, a lot of inspiration should be taken from the Volvo Concept Recharge, whether it’s about the overall shape or the exact design language and front and rear-end designs.
Interior
The same philosophy should be applied on the inside, where we expect to see Volvo’s take and the latest trends in the EV industry, which seems very complementary to the classic Scandinavian sense of aesthetics. Of course, we are talking about a simplistic dashboard design, with super clean lines that come in a combination with a massive infotainment screen that replaces most of the physical controls. Typically for Volvo, the build quality and selection of materials should be at a pretty high level.
With the expected dimensions, we are pretty sure that the new SUV will be very generous with passenger space. Of course, three rows of seats should be standard, and even the third row should be adult friendly. The cargo area should also offer a lot of space.
Features
We already mentioned that the model’s simplistic aesthetics will be complemented by a solid amount of tech features. One of them should be a 14.5-inch vertically-oriented infotainment screen, equipped with in-dash navigation powered by Google Maps. Furthermore, we also expect to see base models equipped with goodies like wireless Apple CarPlay, along with a 5G cellular data connection. On the other hand, the premium 25-speaker audio system provided by Bowers and Wilkins should be available as an upgrade.
Volvo has always been an industry leader when it comes to safety, so expectations are traditionally very high in this aspect. Naturally, we expect to see all kinds of advanced safety features and base models will certainly come standard with goodies like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist and similar things, while an advanced semi-autonomous driving system should be on offer too.
2024 Volvo EX90 Powertrain, Battery, Performance
As for the 2024 Volvo EX90 specs, we have pretty big expectations, because the officials already announced some of the specs. For example, we know that there will be two versions on offer and that both will feature a dual-motor setup. Base versions will come with a couple of electric motors that provide a total output of 402 horsepower and from what we know so far, that model will be called Twin Motor. There will also be a Twin Motor Performance, which will be good for nearly 500 horsepower and it will be able to hit 60 in just 4.7 seconds.
As for the battery, both models will probably feature a 111-kWh pack, and presume that will be enough for about 300 miles on a single charge. As for the battery speed, we already hear stories about 80% of the battery being able to recharge in less than 30 minutes.
2024 Volvo EX90 Release Date and Price
The officials are still quiet but various sources suggest that the 2024 Volvo EX90 could arrive already in the last quarter of this year. The same sources suggest a starting price of around 80.000 dollars.
