Volvo has just come up with the brand-new EX30, which is about to hit the North American market the next year, as the 2025 Volvo EX30. It will be the smallest but also the fastest model in the lineup of this Swedish carmaker. Things actually go way beyond that, because the new Volvo won’t just be about all-electric performance, about things like acceleration and charging speed. No, this model represents a comprehensive take on green footprint and overall sustainability. It uses recycled materials and it is by far the greenest vehicle in the lineup.
Small dimensions make it perfect for concrete jungles, but EX30 will be extremely fast. It will be quicker than the Tesla Model Y but at the same time, it will be quite affordable. Base models will feature a single electric motors, higher trim levels will get two. Both will feature the same battery pack and a max range of, at least, 265 miles.
2025 Volvo EX30 Design
The 2025 Volvo EX30 is a brand-new model, the smallest one in the lineup. Despite also being the cheapest, it is packed with all kinds of modern technologies. First of all, it rides on the advanced SEA platform, co-developed with Geely, which is currently one of the leading companies in the world when it comes to battery and other EV-related technology. Of course, the EX30 benefits a lot from that fact and combines it with the smart design in such a nice fashion.
Just one look and you will notice the company’s latest design language, a design with a lot of similarities with the EX90. The front end looks very similar, with the same “Thor’s hammer” headlights and upright front fascia. The overall shape is quite boxy and when it comes to dimensions, things are rather miniature. The SUV features a little bit over 104 inches in wheelbase, while the total length is just 166.7 inches.
Interior
On the inside, the 2025 Volvo EX30 showcases a typical Scandinavian school of design. Everything looks simple and minimalistic, yet very elegant. The dashboard is clean, with just a couple of horizontal lines. Of course, there is a massive infotainment screen but, interestingly, there is no instrument cluster, and that’s not the only untypical design solution. The glove box is moved to the center, while cup holders fold up when not in use.
What Volvo proudly advertises is sustainability and in this case, that means the use of recycled materials. Most of the cabin is made of recycled materials, especially the upholstery. It can come either in a recycled Denim layout or with recycled polyester. Recycled materials have been used outside as well, including aluminum parts.
Features
As a model that showcases Volvo’s latest technological achievements, the EX30 comes packed with a full load of advanced tech goodies. We already mentioned the 12.3-inch infotainment system, which comes with the latest, Google-based interface. Of course, it incorporates wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while there is another pretty interesting design solution – a soundbar at the top of the dashboard, which replaces classic speakers that would normally be in various areas of the cabin.
Paying attention to safety has always been Volvo’s thing, so we are not surprised that the Pilot Assist gets further updates. Among notable improvements, we particularly like the ability to detect other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, now in all weather conditions. Also, the driver drowsiness monitoring system has been updated and now comes with a couple of new sensors, including the one that tracts the driver’s eye, all in order to collect as much information as possible regarding driver’s condition.
Drivetrain and Battery
We already mentioned that the 2025 Volvo EX30 will come in two variants. Base models will feature a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle. That version will feature a max output of 268 horsepower, which seems plenty enough to ensure good driving dynamics and overall performance. For more ambitious drivers, here is a desert. The EX30 will be available with two electric motors and a total output of 422 horsepower. That will be enough to move this small crossover from zero to sixty in just 3.4 seconds. That makes it quicker than Tesla Model Y Performance.
Both versions will use the same battery pack, at least in North America. We are talking about a 64.0-kWh pack, which provides up to 275 miles of range in the single-motor version. Twin-motor versions should be good for up to 265 miles per charge. When it comes to charging speed, it will go up to 153 kW with the DC fast charger, which means 10-to-80 percent in just 30 minutes.
2025 Volvo EX30 Release Date and Price
The U.S. launch is planned for the next year and from what we know so far, the base model will cost around 36.000 dollars. The super-quick twin-motor version will go around 44.000 dollars, which is still 6k less than you would pay for the base XC90.
