2022 Nissan Armada Diesel: Rumor or Something More?

2425 0

Nissan’s largest SUV has received a major facelift for the 2021 model year and logically, we would expect to see no bigger changes for the next year. However, rumors suggest a little bit different scenario. If we can trust them, the biggest novelty for the next year would be the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel. The capable SUV would come with a version that uses oil burner, which would provide way better fuel economy, which is currently one of the Armada’s weakest points.

However, the actual chances to see this diesel version are minimal. Simply, the current generation has been around for a long time and it doesn’t make sense to invest a lot in a model that will probably receive a full redesign in the next few years. Also, keep in mind that Nissan already has a pretty unsuccessful adventure with the diesel version of Titan, which was discontinued a couple of years ago. That’s why we are pretty sure that the gasoline version will remain the only one on the offer and that the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel will be a typical carryover model.

2022 Nissan Armada Diesel Engine

As we’ve just mentioned, there are a few reasons why we are pretty sure that the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel. Simply, the Titan with oil burner failed, while even the well-known Patrol, which is an international version of Armada, doesn’t come with a diesel engine anymore.

Hypothetically, if this version is about to come, we presume that the Japanese manufacturer would rely on a familiar solution. Of course, we are talking about the 5.0-liter V8 turbodiesel from Cummins, the same that powered the Titan. In the full-size pickup, it featured a max output of 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, which seems enough to provide decent performance. Compared to the gasoline version, this one would be slower, but additional torque would probably improve towing capacity. Most importantly, fuel economy would be better. Also, this one would use a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin, instead of the 7-speed unit that comes with the gasoline model.

Speaking of the gasoline model, we have no doubt it will continue in the same way. This model uses a well-known 5.6-liter V8 engine, which puts out around 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Driving dynamics are pretty good, while the engine comes with a 7-speed automatic, as we already mentioned. The average fuel economy goes around 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

2022 Nissan Armada Diesel Design

If the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel is about to arrive, we have no doubt that, other than the engine and transmission, things would be pretty much the same as in the standard gasoline model. This means a familiar layout, based on the Y62 platform, which offers pretty engaging handling, considering that we are talking about a full-size SUV.

Of course, this would also mean all the updates that we saw with the last year’s facelift. This includes the new front end, which comes with new headlights, a more prominent grille, reshaped bumper etc. All these changes made the Armada look pretty fresh, even though we are essentially talking about a decade-old design.

Interior

The same thing goes with the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel interior, which also came with a couple of updates last year. The biggest one is the revision of the dashboard, which now features a larger touchscreen and more tech features. The overall cabin quality is pretty impressive, though we have to say that some areas look a little bit outdated.

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about regarding passenger space. The first two rows are very generous with space and accommodate adults with ease, while the third row is also quite functional. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 16.5 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 49.9 cubic feet behind the second row and 95.4 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Those are pretty decent ratings for the class.

Features

Of course, we also presume that the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel would come with the same or very similar trim level organization as the standard gasoline model. So, the base version would come equipped with goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a 12.3-inch touch screen, Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, a four-speaker stereo, and Bluetooth.

Among options, we would expect to see things like a six-speaker stereo, a 13-speaker Bose stereo, wireless device charging, a second-row entertainment system, a moonroof, a household-style power outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and a remote start.

2022 Nissan Armada Diesel Release Date and Price

We presume that the 2022 Nissan Armada Diesel would come by the end of the year. The starting price would probably go around 50.000 dollars. Key competitors would be models like Chevy Tahoe Diesel, GMC Yukon Diesel etc.
