In some parts of the world, minivans are much more than just family haulers. They are luxury haulers, so it doesn’t surprise that the interest in Lexus’ luxury minivan is getting bigger and bigger. The Japanese premium carmaker is bringing the next generation, which has just been presented in Shanghai. The new model will debut as the 2024 Lexus LM and for the first time, it will also be offered in Europe. On the other hand, it won’t make it to North America.
Improvements are numerous when compared to the previous, original model. There is a new, more prominent styling, along with various chassis upgrades. Of course, the cabin looks even more impressive, with more luxury and more features. Finally, we expect to see it powered by a couple of hybrid powertrains.
2024 Lexus LM Redesign
While the original model was targeting primarily Asian markets, the new model will also be offered in Europe and Japan and, therefore, it offers even more impressive features. Of course, the new model brings a new styling, which looks even more prominent than before. The most notable is the new grill, bigger and more aggressive than before. It’s also worth mentioning that the new generation is bigger, even though the wheelbase remains the same. Logically, this translates to more interior space, and we will get to that in a moment.
Big changes have come under the hood as well, starting from the new chassis, which is 50% stiffer, according to the manufacturer. Also, there is the new suspension setup, softer than before. The manufacturer claims notably increased comfort compared to the previous model.
Interior
Interior has always been LM’s key quality, which makes sense if we consider this is a luxury minivan. The cabin has been completely redesigned and not looks even better than before. At the front, you can notice a super-elegant dashboard design. There is an elegant dashboard design, with horizontal lines, full of leather and wood surfaces. Of course, there are also massive instrument and infotainment screens, along with other tech features.
All that looks very luxurious but things are even more impressive in the second row, where you can find a massive 48-inch screen, along with other tech goodies. The most luxurious models feature just a couple of chairs in the second row, massive and super comfortable, while the base 7-seat version is available too.
Of course, this 2024 Lexus LM is all about comfort, so passengers may enjoy up to 64 color ambient lighting themes. We also like the retractable leather table stored inside the armrest, as well as the infrared sensors that can detect the temperature of the rear-seat occupant and automatically adjust the temperature inside the cabin.
2024 Lexus LM Powertrain
When it comes to powertrain, the Japanese luxury carmaker already announced that there will be two hybrid options on offer. One of them will be Toyota’s classic self-charging hybrid, based on a 2.5-liter inline-four engine, the same that powers models like Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX. We haven’t heard anything about the numbers, but we presume the max output could go around 240 horsepower.
The more powerful hybrid powertrain would be based on a 2.4-liter turbo-four. Once again, the officials were quiet about the max output, but we presume it could go up to 350 horsepower. Also, while the base system comes with a CVT, this one would probably use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Lexus LM Release Date
We expect that the 2024 Lexus LM will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. Details about the price are yet to be announced.
