After the recent launch of the all-new Land Cruiser 300, it’s now time for its smaller iteration to get a full redesign. Of course, we are talking about the Prado, which hasn’t been redesigned for a very long time. The current generation has been around since 2009 and despite several updates, it feels outdated in some aspects. Therefore, we are eager to see what the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is going to look like. From what we can see and hear, there is a full load of novelties coming with the new model.

Of course, one of the biggest novelties to come with the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is the new platform. We will also see a completely new styling, along with the new interior design. Some of the most important novelties will come under the hood. We are about to see several new powertrain options, including a hybrid setup.

2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Redesign

This redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties and one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. Just like other Toyota models that ride on a BoF chassis, the new 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will also switch to the new TNGA-F platform, which already underpins models like Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX, Toyota Sequoia etc.

The new platform will bring significant improvements, starting with massive weight reduction. Also, it’s a well-known fact that this platform brings a much lower center of gravity, so we may expect better ride quality as well. Of course, a new suspension will play a big part in this, so we expect to see a smoother and more comfortable ride.

That doesn’t mean that the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will sacrifice any of its off-road performance. Moreover, it should become even better. Just like the current generation, the new one will come standard with high ground clearance, full-time four-wheel drive, center locking differential, hill descent control, selectable traction modes etc. Also, count on several upgrades available, starting from the front and rear differentials, low-range gearing, further suspension upgrades etc.

Exterior

When it comes to exterior design, one of the first things we should talk about is the size. We don’t expect bigger changes compared to the previous generation. The new model will keep the same or similar wheelbase, which currently goes around 110 inches. The point of this move is to keep off-road potential at a super high level, even though most rivals will offer more spacious cabins.

Naturally, we also expect to see a new styling. At this point, details are still unavailable but we presume that some inspiration will be taken from the full-size LC300. The overall shape shouldn’t change much, so we expect to see that rugged appearance once again.

Interior

On the inside, the current model shows signs of aging, even though the overall interior quality is impressive. Therefore, we expect that the new generation will feature a completely new dashboard design, with more attractive aesthetics and even nicer materials. Furthermore, we count on lots of new tech features, including a large infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and other.

As we’ve just mentioned, the wheelbase will probably remain unchanged. Therefore, you may also count on the same amount of passenger space. This SUV offers very spacious front seats, with plenty of room. The second row is also very comfortable, though we can’t say the same for the third row, which is tight and works only for kids.

2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Engines

This aspect will bring some of the biggest changes because we expect to see a lot of new powertrain options to be offered. In many parts of the world, the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel will remain the main choice, with a max output of 204 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. However, we believe that the bigger 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel could find its place under the hood as well.

Besides diesel units, the new 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will also come with a hybrid powertrain on offer. Allegedly, we will see a new setup, based on a turbo-four engine, which would come with a max output of around 350 horsepower. This version would use a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, we could see models with a 2.4-liter turbo-four in some markets. This engine would come as a replacement for the good-old 4.0-liter V6.
