The 2024 Lexus LX will represent the third production year of the current generation of the brand’s flagship SUV and even though that’s still early for something like a mid-cycle update, it looks like some big updates are actually coming. It looks like the Japanese carmaker is preparing at least two big novelties for the next year, including a hybrid powertrain. Moreover, it looks like we could also see a more capable off-roader in the lineup, with similar upgrades we saw recently in the Land Cruiser 300.
On the other hand, the overall layout is about to remain the same. We expect to see the same overall design, with the model’s familiar strong points, such as the capable turbo V6 engines, excellent interior build quality, long list of standard equipment etc.
Despite the potential updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Lexus LX could arrive much earlier than usual, but rather in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Lexus LX Is Finally Getting Hybrid Powertrain?
Without any doubt, one of the most anticipated updates for the 2024 Lexus LX is the hybrid powertrain. According to the latest rumors, this will finally happen and the company will offer an upgraded version of the familiar system found in Tundra and Sequoia. The base layout will remain the same, consisting of a twin-turbo V6 and electric motors, which come coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, most sources suggest that the max output will be increased, probably to around 450 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.
On the other hand, standard models will continue with a familiar 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 409 horsepower and offers pretty good overall performance. This engine also comes coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all wheels in all variants. This version also offers excellent towing capacity for the class, which goes up to 8.000 pounds.
2024 Lexus LX Design
As we already mentioned, the 2024 Lexus LX will represent the third production year of the generaion and if we consider how long the previous version was in production, it’s pretty clear that we are still far away from mid-cycle refresh on any other updates of that kind. However, even though the overall design is about to remain the same, it looks like the company is preparing a new version, with way better off-road performance.
That model would come with several mechanical upgrades, starting from the new, off-road suspension, which will provide more travel. Moreover, it should be adjustable, allowing LX to increase ground clearance. Furthermore, we count on a few additional pieces of hardware and some sources suggest that this version is going to feature three locking differentials. Of course, let’s not forget those features that are already part of the standard equipment, such as various traction control modes, low-speed crawl control etc.
Interior
Changes on the inside are not expected. We count on the same cabin design, which has so many great things to offer. It may not look as fancy as rivals like Range Rover, for example, but on the other hand, the materials are great while the build quality and attention to detail are probably the best in the class. Furthermore, all models come with a long list of standard tech and convenience features, so even the most basic variants look super-luxurious.
On the other hand, Japanese engineers decided to keep the wheelbase short, to ensure high off-roading potential. For that reason, the cabin isn’t as spacious as in the case of some rivals. Instead, the third row is pretty tight, while the cargo area is among the smallest in the class. On the other hand, the front and second-row seats are spacious and very comfortable.
Features
We don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect, at least when it comes to tech and convenience features. Therefore, we expect to see base models equipped with an 8-speed digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch and 7-inch touch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker premium stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, wireless device charging, navigation, Bluetooth, four USB ports, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener and a moonroof. The list of upgrades should include a 25-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound stereo, a rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.4-inch displays, two additional USB ports, ambient interior lighting and a console cooler.
When it comes to safety, all models will come with goodies like surround-view camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, rearview camera, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and many more.

The 2024 Lexus LX should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 90.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Range Rover Sport, Jeep Grand Wagoneer etc.
