Lexus has finally decided to offer a proper three-row SUV. So far, that role was reserved for not-so-representative RX-L, if we exclude the truck-based LX, which is a completely different story. This model is now the best family hauler in the lineup and besides space, it also offers plenty of luxury, along with an elegant design. The 2024 Lexus TX will go on sale later this year.
Many parts are shared with the mainstream Grand Highlander, but there are also some pretty exclusive things, starting from the plug-in hybrid powertrain option, one of the three that will be on offer. Besides plenty of power and great fuel economy, the new SUV will offer plenty of cargo space, which has been the weak spot of many Lexus models so far. That combination of luxury and practicality should make this SUV one of the most desirable three-row models in the mid-size luxury segment which doesn’t have too many models that are practical enough at the moment.
2024 Lexus TX Design
The 2024 Lexus TX is coming as the company’s brand-new model, the first proper three-row SUV from this brand. Interestingly, many parts are shared with Toyota Grand Highlander, especially when it comes to mechanics and platform in general. Still, the TX is 2 inches long and features various upgrades, starting from a significantly upgraded suspension setup, chassis reinforcements and similar things.
With more than 116 inches in wheelbase and more than 203 inches in total length, this will be the largest vehicle in the brand’s lineup. In terms of styling, the famous spindle grille is still there but the most recent Lexus models are characterized by a little bit more conservative approach than before, which is something that should help the new model attract a wider range of potential buyers.
Interior
As for the interior design, this model delivers exactly what you would expect from a Lexus. It’s not the flashiest, nor the fanciest cabin in the class. The 2024 Lexus TX relies primarily on build quality, and the aesthetics are rather conservative. We really like that approach because the Japanese luxury carmaker puts so much focus on build quality and pays so much attention to detail. All that is complemented by a massive 14-inch infotainment screen, while the instrument cluster can be analog or digital, depending on the trim level you pick.
Lexus will finally offer a proper three-row SUV. The third row will be spacious enough to accommodate adults, while the first and the second row will offer pretty much the same level of comfort as the two-row RX, which is great. One of the key advantages of this three-row SUV will be cargo space. You may count on 20.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 57.4 with the third row stowed and 97 cubes in total, which is excellent for the class.
2024 Lexus TX Engines
As we already mentioned, the 2024 Lexus TX will share a lot of parts with the Grand Highlander, including some powertrain options. From what we know so far, there will be three variants of the powertrain, including the two units from Toyota’s three-row SUV. One of them will be the base version, called the TX 350, which will use a familiar 2.4-liter turbo-four engine, tuned to about 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The TX 500h will use the company’s new hybrid system based on the same turbo-four, with a combined output of 362 horsepower. This system comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Finally, the company is bringing a completely new powertrain option, TX 550h+, which will feature a plug-in hybrid setup. This system will be based on a 3.5-liter V6 engine and it will offer a combined output of 406 horsepower. The company didn’t say anything about battery capacity but we know that the fuel economy should go around 30 miles per gallon, while the max range in the EV model should go up to 33 miles. Also, it’s worth mentioning that this powertrain will come in pair with a CVT gearbox.
2024 Lexus TX Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Lexus TX will hit the market this fall. The price is yet to be announced, but we estimate that the base versions will go around 55.000 dollars.
