These days, everyone talks about the next-generation CX-9, which would eventually come as the CX-90. The new model is expected to bring a lot of big novelties, starting from the new platform, which will feature an FR layout, with a longitudinally-mounted engine, new inline-six engines etc. On the other hand, the latest reports suggest that the Japanese company plans to live the current CX-9 in production for some more time. Allegedly, the 2024 Mazda CX-9 will represent one of the final model years.
If such a scenario is about to happen, we presume that no bigger changes would be introduced. Instead, the next year’s model would continue in the same way, with familiar design and features. This means a three-row SUV with pretty engaging handling and a high-quality interior. Furthermore, this means an efficient powertrain and a long list of standard equipment.
We expect that the 2024 Mazda CX-9 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Mazda CX-9 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Mazda CX-9 will probably come without more important changes. This means that we may count on a design that hasn’t changed much since its initial launch in 2016. The overall design is still the same but thanks to the super-stylish exterior, it still looks very competitive, better than some much younger rivals.
Not only that this Mazda looks great, but it also rides great. It definitely justifies Mazda’s reputation for making cars that are fun and engaging to drive. The CX-9 is easy to drive and offers a pretty high level of athleticism.
Considering all this, it’s pretty much for sure that the 2024 Mazda CX-9 will come without more important changes. The only updates we could see the minor ones, such as new color options and similar things.
Interior
This SUV has so many strong points and cabin design is one of them. Typically for Mazda, the dashboard features a simple but very elegant design, with high-quality materials. Everything looks very stylish, so it’s no wonder that this cabin is often compared with the interiors of models with premium badges.
The overall quality is excellent, though the cabin room isn’t as great as in most rivals. Most rivals offer more spacious third rows and cargo areas. On the other hand, the first two rows are very spacious and capable. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and the driving position is excellent.
As we’ve just mentioned, the cargo area is smaller compared to most rivals. You may count on about 14.4 cubic feet of room behind the third row, 38.2 cubic feet behind the second row, and 71.2 cubic feet of the total cargo space.
Features
Considering that we are probably talking about the final production year of the generation, the 2024 Mazda CX-9 probably won’t feature bigger changes regarding the standard and available equipment. Most things should remain the same as in the current model. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 10.25-inch display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, four USB ports, HD Radio, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, voice recognition, wireless device charging, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and a moonroof.
When it comes to available features, the current model is available with goodies like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, satellite radio, two third-row USB ports, navigation, ambient interior lighting etc.
The same thing is with safety features. So, base models should come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers etc.
2024 Mazda CX-9 Engine
The 2024 Mazda CX-9 will continue with a single powertrain option. That’s a pretty familiar 2.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough for a respectable performance. Driving dynamics are great and, combined with engaging handling, they ensure a great overall driving experience.
All models come standard with all-wheel drive, while the average fuel economy goes around 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is decent for the class. What’s not so good for the class is the max towing capacity, which is rated at just 3.500 pounds.
2024 Mazda CX-9 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Mazda CX-9 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 39.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Buick Enclave, Hyundai Palisade etc.
