It’s impossible to have any conversation about luxury and don’t include Mercedes-Benz. The German carmaker has always been a household name in the business, especially with the iconic S Class. These are a little bit different times when most people prefer SUVs over sedans. So, the situation in this company’s lineup changed a little bit as well. Although the S-Class is still there, better than ever, it seems like people pay more attention to its SUV iteration, the GLS. That model has just been refreshed and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is expected to perform even better in this highly-demanding class.
Updates are all over the place and the first thing you’ll notice is, of course, the new appearance. The styling has been updated, but the same treatment has been applied on the inside too. Moreover, updates are under the hood as well and in this aspect, the German manufacturer focused on improving more basic variants and providing more horsepower for them.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Design
As we’ve just mentioned, this is a pretty comprehensive update, which includes novelties in all aspects. Still, we will, as always, start with the exterior updates. As you would expect from a mid-cycle refresh, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS sports a new styling. The changes may be subtle but they are quite effective. First of all, you can notice a bigger and more prominent grille, while there is also a pair of revised headlights. On the rear and, it’s pretty easy to notice new taillights, with three distinct blocks. The Company also added a couple of new color options and new wheel designs.
Just like the pre-updated model, the new version comes standard with air suspension, which is responsible for excellent comfort. However, the new model is now available with a so-called Off-Road Engineering package, which upgrades air suspension and increased max ground clearance by 1.2 inches. This package also includes underbody skid plates.
Interior
On the inside, the overall cabin layout remains the same, but there is a pretty big portion of novelties that make it way more appealing. One of the first things you’ll notice is a new steering wheel. It has a new design and new touch controls on the spokes. Furthermore, the infotainment system has been updated, even though the screens remained the same.
Even more notable are novelties like new leather options and color schemes. For example, there is now a pretty impressive choice of leather colors, such as Mahogany Brown and Macchiato Beige, Catalana Beige, Bahia Brown/Black, Crystal White and Silver Gray Pearl, Mahogany Brown and Macchiato Beige. Moreover, there are also new interior materials and trim, such as Brown Linden Wood and MANUFAKTUR Piano Lacquer Flowing Lines.
Since we are still talking about the same organization, it’s easy to conclude that the amount of passenger space remains the same. That’s not an issue, not at all. Unlike rivals like BMW X7, this full-size features a third row of seats that is actually adult-friendly. Of course, the first two rows are super generous and super comfy with space.
The cabin is also loaded with modern tech and convenience features. All models come standard with a couple of massive 12.3-inch screens. One is a digital gauge display, while the other is responsible for the infotainment system. Of course, things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless, while the list of standard equipment also includes navigation, a virtual assistant, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 13-speaker audio system and more. Range-topping models are available with an extraordinary 26-speaker 3D audio system, also provided by Burmester.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines
The refreshed model also brings notable upgrades under the hood and what we particularly like is that the focus was on more basic variants, which received notable power upgrades. Of course, the offer once again starts with the 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, which is now good for about 375 horsepower, a 13-hp jump from the last year’s model. The GLS 580 gets a more notable power upgrade of 27 ponies, so the most basic variant of the well-known 4.0-liter turbo-four now puts out quite an impressive 510 horsepower.
For those who look for ultimate Mercedes-Benz performance, the AMG 63 continues in the same way. This model was updated last year when the twin-turbo received a notable power update. So, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS in this iteration will certainly carry on in the same way, with a max output of 603 horsepower and the ability to hit 60 in just 3.6 seconds.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Release Date and Price
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is expected to hit the market sometime this fall, though the more precise date is yet to come. As for the price, we don’t expect to see a significant increase over the current model. Most likely, the most affordable GLS will cost around 85.000 dollars, while the V8-powered GLS 580 should go around 110.000. The AMG-badged model will probably start at around 150.000 dollars.
