The current-generation Cherokee is certainly one of the oldest models in its class, so it’s no wonder it lags behind the competition in many aspects. It started to look old, especially from the inside, where it definitely needs big refreshments. Drawbacks are becoming more transparent in other areas as well, so we are happy to share with you the latest reports about this off-road-capable SUV, which is expected to finally get a redesign. From what we know so far, it looks like the 2025 Jeep Cherokee will get a complete overhaul, more than a decade after the launch of the current generation.
With such a long production cycle, it’s pretty much for sure that the upcoming redesign is about to bring big changes. First of all, there is the matter of the platform, which should open up all kinds of new possibilities. Naturally, the new generation will get a new styling, and significant changes are expected on the inside as well. Finally, let’s not forget all kinds of new possibilities when it comes to powertrains.
In any case, we expect to see the 2025 Jeep Cherokee sometime late in the next year, or maybe in early 2025.
2025 Jeep Cherokee Redesign
With more than a decade in production, the current generation seems more than ready for replacement. It needs improvements in various aspects, so it’s not a surprise that everyone expects to see comprehensive updates with this redesign. One of the first things that comes to mind is the platform, which will be completely different compared to the outgoing model.
This time, we will see a modified version of the well-known Giorgio platform. This architecture already underpins the new Grand Cherokee but in this case, it will be slightly different. This particularly refers to the layout, because the 2025 Jeep Cherokee will remain a FWD-biased vehicle with a transversally-mounted engine. Of course, four-wheel-drive will be standard and we expect that the new platform will bring significant improvements regarding on-road ride quality because that’s currently one of the weakest points of this SUV.
Exterior Design
As for the exterior, we presume that the new model won’t bring anything radical when it comes to overall proportions. We expect to see very similar sizes. Even the wheelbase shouldn’t be increased significantly, because that would compromise the model’s off-road potential.
On the other side, we do expect to see a completely new styling. With the outgoing generation, the company tried something different, but that wasn’t accepted very well by the crowd. So, we are pretty sure that the next model will rather stick with Jeep’s conventional aesthetics. We presume that the styling would have a lot in common with the new Grand Cherokee, especially at the front.
Interior
As we already mentioned, interior design is arguably one of the weakest points of the current generation. The dashboard looks old, while the whole cabin features subpar build quality and materials. That’s why we eagerly wait to see the new model because its cabin should offer something way better. If you look at the new Grand Cherokee, but also at the updated Compass, things look way more upscale than they used to, so we presume that the same scenario is waiting for the new Cherokee, which would look way more luxurious.
Considering that the overall dimensions are expected to remain the same, we presume that the amount of passenger space would also remain pretty similar. The current model is already quite generous with space, so that shouldn’t be an issue. On the other hand, we would definitely expect to see a little bit more cargo room this time, because the outgoing model isn’t generous in this aspect at all.
2025 Jeep Cherokee Engines
As for the powertrain, the current model comes with a pretty good 2.0-liter turbo-four that puts out 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, so we presume that could remain the base engine option for the new generation. However, we would like to see some improvements regarding transmission, because the current 9-speed unit is far from great.
Besides the gas-only version, the new 2025 Jeep Cherokee should also come electrified. It’s still early for details, but that could easily be the same system that powers models like Alfa Rome Tonale and Dodge Hornet. That system is based on a small 1.3-liter turbo-four, which comes coupled with a single electric motor, for a total output of 288 horsepower, which is plenty enough power for a vehicle of these proportions.
2025 Jeep Cherokee Release Date and Price
Although the officials are still quiet about the launch date, we expect the new 2025 Jeep Cherokee to come sometime in the second half of 2024, eventually in the first half of 2025. In any case, the new model may get slightly more expensive than the current one, which starts at around 38.000.
