After launching new GX 550 and TX SUVs, Lexus is going to redesign the subcompact UX crossover. It is a luxury version of the new Toyota Corolla Cross. The Japanese company is a leader in this segment and the all-new 2025 Lexus UX is going to cement the place in the pecking order. The crossover debuted in 2018 and it is perfect timing for the update. The subcompact class is not so popular today. Infiniti discontinued the QX30 and has no intention of bringing it back. Some of the rivals are the Volvo XC40, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
The redesigned model is going to draw more attention than before, for sure. However, details are still unavailable and the company didn’t start running tests of the new 2025 Lexus UX. The same drivetrain will be under the hood. Besides that, expect a debut of an all-electric model in the US. The UX 300e is already available in Europe. The same goes for a larger NX.
2025 Lexus UX Hybrid Specs
Engineers maximized the efficiency of the crossover by dropping standard configurations and using only a hybrid setup. The system delivers 180 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. A 2.0-liter petrol unit is under the hood and electric battery helps in saving fuel. This is a very capable combo that will return at least 42 mpg. If the redesigned model is going to be lighter, the mileage is about to get a small boost.
The 2025 Lexus UX won’t get a PHEV configuration. Companies enhance fuel economy rather than power. Plus, electric drivetrains are way more effective on subcompact crossovers. So, we have Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro and Chevy Bolt as EVs, while those companies are not installing plug-in hybrids to these vehicles.
2025 Lexus UX Electric
The UX 300e is already on European roads. The range of an electric crossover is 145 miles. The system gets power from a 54.3- kWh battery (45 kWh usable). A total of 201 hp is being sent to the front wheels. No other drive mode is available. The EV is built in Japan. Lexus will have to move the production to the US for North American models.
This version should be different than the European/Japanese model. Well, even those could be redesigned soon. The styling is not too important here, but the performance improvements. The US version will probably break 200 miles. There won’t be a need for a dual-motor setup and high-performance configuration. Still, the UX F Sport with an electric drivetrain would be something special, not only in the Lexus lineup but the entire market.
2025 Lexus UX F Sport
The best version of the 2025 Lexus UX will remain the F Sport. The crossover already offers two different models with this badge. The redesigned vehicle will keep one, and maybe even both. The UX F Sport is using the same powertrain and there is no enhancement when it comes to performance. But, thanks to special body parts, the driving impression is unique, especially maneuvering and cornering.
The interior is also sportier. Power-adjustable seats wrapped in leather with heating and cooling, top-of-the-tier features and multimedia gadgets, and unique details will make the 2025 Lexus UX F Sport cozier and safer. The company is improving adaptive cruise control and the system’s autonomy might reach level 4 pretty soon.
Redesign and Release Date
The lifespan of compact and subcompact crossovers is around 5-6 years. Even during the same generation, companies update their vehicles. The UX debuted in 2018 and the styling was not revisited ever since. On the other hand, Lexus focused more on the powertrain room. Initially, there was a turbo-four engine, which is replaced by a hybrid unit, while EV became available in Europe. Now, enthusiasts expect the same drivetrain systems and a complete focus on the 2025 Lexus UX redesign.
Prototypes have not been caught by photographers yet. Even if test mules were out, those would wear a heavy camo, hiding most details. Toyota recently launched the Corolla Cross, a new crossover positioned between Rav4 and C-HR. the 2025 Lexus UX will have similar dimensions, making room for an even smaller model. It is not likely that Lexus will go after this one. We can’t compare the UX to new and confirmed upcoming crossovers and SUVs since the company treats every vehicle with a lot of attention. A unique grille, bumper and headlights will make the crossover attractive to younger buyers. Due to its size and features, the Lexus UX is perfect for beginners.
The updated vehicle should debut by the end of 2024. Thanks to the redesign, the price is going up. Expect the MSRP to start around $38,000. You will have to pay at least $45,000 for the electric version. The good thing is a credit of $7,500 you are getting for purchasing zero-emission vehicles. There will be trim levels for this one as well. We’ll see how the F Sport model does with an electric drivetrain.
