A few years ago, the Korean manufacturer came up with the idea to replace the old Starex with a new van, which would feature a more modern design and some simpler, more economical design solutions. The model we saw was Hyundai Staria, which is currently offered across Asia, Australia, South America and several European countries. The model was introduced in 2021 and, therefore, the 2023 Hyundai Staria doesn’t bring more important updates.

Therefore, you may count on a familiar design, which has a lot of great things to offer. We like the generous amount of passenger space, while the cabin also looks very premium. Furthermore, the list of standard and available equipment is pretty generous, while there is also a choice between petrol and diesel engine, as well as an LPG conversion in certain parts of the world.

2023 Hyundai Staria Design

The 2023 Hyundai Staria continues in the same way, featuring the same overall design. The first thing you can notice about this minivan is its styling, which looks very futuristic. That’s mainly because of the front-end design, which is highlighted by a narrow line with headlights and other lighting groups, a massive grille, massive and rounded glass surfaces etc.

The same thing is with mechanics. This minivan is based on Hyundai’s familiar N3 platform and shares a lot of parts with models like Kia Carnival, or Hyundai Santa Fe. The major difference compared to the previous Starex is in the layout, as there is a more practical FF layout instead of an old-school FR setup, which included rear-wheel drive. This change didn’t sacrifice ride quality at all. Moreover, the new minivan features a more refined suspension setup and offers a pretty smooth and comfortable ride.

Interior

On the inside, you can notice that the dashboard follows the company’s modern design philosophy, characterized by clean lines and elegant design solutions. The materials are also very nice, while the overall build quality and attention to detail are at a pretty impressive level. Furthermore, there is a massive infotainment screen, in a digital instrument cluster available, reserved for higher trim levels. On the other hand, base models come with a smaller, 8-inch infotainment screen, which doesn’t come integrated with things like navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2023 Hyundai Staria Interior

Thanks to the very long wheelbase, which measures nearly 129 inches (3.273mm), the amount of passenger space is pretty impressive. All three rows are very generous with legroom and accommodate adults with ease. Moreover, the seats are well-shaped and feel very comfortable on longer journeys.

Even with all seats in use, there is a very generous cargo space, with 831 liters. With the third row down, you may count on also impressive 1303 liters of cargo volume. It’s also good to know that a full-size spare tire is located under the floor.

2023 Hyundai Staria Engines

Depending on the market, the 2023 Hyundai Staria comes with different engine options on offer. In most markets, this minivan comes with a diesel engine. We are talking about a good-old 2.2-liter turbodiesel. This turbo-four oil burner is good for about 175 horsepower and 430Nm of torque. The engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. We find the latter more appealing, as it can also be paired with an on-demand all-wheel-drive system.

The petrol version is also available in many markets and it is powered by a 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 270 horsepower and 332Nm of torque. The engine comes in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission, and it is also available with LPG conversion in some parts of the world. That version is rated at 240 horsepower and 310Nm of torque.
