Mitsubishi’s minivan designed for the developing market is doing pretty well, with strong sales numbers, so the company wanted to secure its good position in the market. Therefore, the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander and  Xpander Cross are coming with notable updates, receiving a so-called mid-cycle refresh. This update brings novelties in various aspects, particularly in terms of aesthetics.

Besides exterior updates, this model also gets some interesting interior updates, including new upholstery, which make this vehicle look more upscale. Furthermore, the company also did some suspension tweaks, to make the ride more comfortable. On the other hand, the powertrain department remains the same, with the same engine and transmission choices.

So, the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander comes with mid-cycle updates. The most notable, as we already mentioned, are those in terms of styling. the new model looks more aggressive, thanks to the new grille pattern, while the headlights and surrounding areas now follow the brand’s latest design language, offering a more futuristic look. The bumpers have been reshaped as well, while you may also count on new 17-inch wheels, along with new color options.

The Xpander Cross also receives updates. The implementation of the brand’s design language is the same, so the front end looks largely the same. Moreover, the overall look feels pretty similar to a minivan, with the main difference in higher ground clearance and black plastic details that accentuate the model’s crossover nature. Speaking of the ground clearance, the Xpander Cross offers pretty respectable numbers, which are 220mm and 225mm, with automatic and manual gearboxes, respectively.

Besides, aesthetical updates, this mid-cycle refresh also brings a few mechanical upgrades. This particularly refers to the suspension setup, which now includes new coil springs and dampers, for a more comfortable ride and less body lean.

Interior

Interior updates are also notable. The 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross bring new upholstery, with diamond patterns on the seats. That’s not all. The company also adds a new steering wheel, along with reorganized climate controls on the redesigned center stack. These new details definitely have a positive impact on the overall appeal, but the overall cabin layout remains the same. This interior offers good-build quality, along with nice materials and a lot of attention to detail.

The large tablet-like infotainment screen makes the cabin look more upscale, while there is a generous amount of available tech features, which include navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, cruise control etc. When it comes to seating configuration, this minivan features three rows of seats and a capacity of seven passengers.

While other aspects bring notable updates, the powertrain department remains the same. Therefore, you may count on a familiar 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which puts out around 105 horsepower and 141Nm of torque. The engine can be paired either to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Considering the amount of power, it’s obvious that you won’t be blown off by Xpander’s performance. Still, driving dynamics are decent enough for daily commuting, even though both transmissions seem outdated by modern standards, even if we talk about a car designed for developing markets. That’s why we hope that the Japanese manufacturer could bring some powertrain upgrades at some point in the future.
