The original Ford Excursion is commonly known as the biggest SUV ever made. Based on the Super Duty pickup, this huge SUV was originally introduced in 1999. However, it didn’t stay in production for too long, as that generation ended in 2006. We didn’t see a successor after that for many reasons but it looks like it could come back after so many years. For a long time, we’ve been hearing rumors about the model’s comeback and now it looks like it could arrive already in the next year, as the 2023 Ford Excursion. Keep in mind that these are just rumors, so make sure to take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.
If the Blue Oval Company is about to bring back this nameplate, we are pretty sure that the design approach wouldn’t be any different. Once again, we would expect to see an SUV that’s based on a heavy-duty pickup, with impressive dimensions and a huge powertrain.
2023 Ford Excursion Design
As we’ve just mentioned, there are many rumors that suggest the comeback of this large SUV. At this point, the officials are still quiet but if the company is willing to bring it back, we know what to expect. Once again, we would see a design that’s based on the company’s well-known Super Duty pickups. More precisely, most parts would be shared with the F-250, starting from the platform, chassis and suspension setup.
When it comes to exterior design, we presume that dimensions could be even more impressive than before. The original model featured around 137 inches of wheelbase, while the new model could go over 140. When it comes to aesthetics, we count on a super-long, wagon-like body, while the front end would take a lot of inspiration from the new F-250, with similarly designed headlights, grille etc.
Interior
Of course, the main benefit of such impressive dimensions would be the passenger space. We would see three very generous rows of seats, which all accommodate adults with ease. Even the third row would be able to accommodate taller passengers comfortably, while the total seating capacity would go up to 8 adult people. Besides plenty of passenger space, the new 2023 Ford Excursion would also offer impressive cargo volume, significantly larger compared to conventional full-size SUVs, such as Ford Expedition or Chevy Suburban.
In terms of aesthetics, the new cabin would probably keep the rugged design of the pickup siblings. This particularly refers to the dashboard, which should feature the same boxy shape, with lots of materials that are rather durable than fine. Of course, we would also expect to see a full load of tech features, such as a massive infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging and many more.
2023 Ford Excursion Engines
Once again, we count on a close relationship with the F-250. The powertrain lineup should be practically the same. This may include the new 6.8-liter V8 engine, which will replace the old 6.2-liter Boss engine that featured max output of 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
On the other hand, the 7.3-liter V8 seems like a certain thing. This engine currently features a max output of 430 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we see a power increase in the near future. Finally, we could see the new 2023 Ford Excursion with a super-capable 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel, which features a max output of 475 horsepower and 1.050 pound-feet of torque.
All engines would come coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
2023 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price
The 2023 Ford Excursion is still just a rumor but there are some reports that suggest the new model could arrive already in the next year. We estimate that this huge SUV could feature a starting price of around 65-70.000 dollars.
