The Ford Excursion was a full-size SUV that was produced by Ford from 1999 to 2005. It was one of the largest SUVs ever manufactured, designed to accommodate up to nine passengers with three rows of seating. And, even though it’s been gone for a long time, it still has a pretty big following, so it’s not a surprise that every rumor about the comeback draws so much attention. So far, all of them turned out to be false but this time, we have reason to believe that things will be different because sources suggest an untypical kind of a comeback. Instead of following the same design approach, the new 2024 Ford Excursion comeback would rather be related to the Expedition. Alternatively, the Blue Oval Company may use this moniker for a new all-electric SUV.

But, before we get on these reports, let’s take a quick look at the model’s short history

History

The Excursion was built on a heavy-duty truck platform, making it significantly larger and more robust than other SUVs of its time. It had a massive interior space and a substantial towing capacity, which made it suitable for large families or individuals requiring a capable vehicle for towing trailers, boats, or campers.

The Excursion offered various engine options during its production years, including gasoline and diesel engines. Some of the engine options included V8 and V10 gasoline engines, as well as a powerful 6.0-liter V8 diesel engine, providing considerable horsepower and torque for its size.

Despite its popularity among certain demographics, the Ford Excursion was eventually discontinued in 2005 due to a combination of factors. Increasing fuel prices and changing consumer preferences towards more fuel-efficient and compact SUVs contributed to its discontinuation.

2024 Ford Excursion: Expedition Connection

The first form of the 2024 Ford Excursion comeback will appear pretty soon, along with the update of the company’s full-size SUV, the Expedition. We are about to see a new optional package, which will be called Excursion and which will bring a couple of pretty interesting features, both outside and on the inside.

First of all, there are mechanical upgrades, as this version of the Expedition is about to bring some solid upgrades. First of all, there is the Trailer Tow package, along with Advanced Cargo Managers and roof rails. The 2024 Ford Excursion package will also include a Continuous Controlled Damping system, which previews road conditions and adapts suspension accordingly, while the package also includes a limited-slip differential on the rear end.

Interior upgrades won’t be so numerous, but the new Excursion will include goodies like floor liners in the first and second rows.

2024 Ford Excursion Might Get All-Electric

The way most enthusiasts see Excursion’s future is full electrification. Although the officials are still quiet, many believe that already the 2024 Ford Excursion could come in such a layout and we presume that it would be closely related to the F-150 Lightning. Moreover, it should also use the same moniker, as well as aesthetics. Several rendering photos already appeared on the network and they all feature the same front-end design as the all-electric pickup.

This would be a full-size all-electric SUV and we presume it would feature the same specs as the pickup. That means there would be two configurations regarding powertrain setup. Base models would come with a setup that features 452 horsepower, while the more powerful variants would be good for about 580 horsepower. The same thing is with the battery, whereas the base models would use a 98-kWh unit, while the bigger 130-kWh pack would be optional. The max range would, presumably, go between 230 and 320 miles, while the max towing would go up to 10.000 pounds.

While the all-electric 2024 Ford Excursion is just a rumor for now, the Excursion package is definitely coming with the 2024 Expedition. This package is expected to cost around 4.000 dollars.
