2024 Toyota Sienna Might Get More Powerful Hybrid Powertrain

The popular minivan has been around for a couple of decades and it established itself as one of the key players in the segment. Even though more and more buyers are turning to three-row SUVs, there is still a big demand for models like the Sienna. The current generation has been around since the last year but it looks like the Japanese manufacturer already prepares some updates for the 2024 Toyota Sienna, which will represent the fourth production year of the generation.

Allegedly, we will see a new powertrain option on offer. It looks like we could see another electrified version, a plug-in hybrid this time. Other than that, some sources also speculate about interior updates, particularly in terms of the new tech and convenience features. On the other hand, the rest of the design should remain largely the same.

We presume that the 2024 Toyota Sienna will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Toyota Sienna Could Get New Powertrain Option

The biggest rumor for the 2024 Toyota Sienna is about the additional powertrain. The current hybrid system is great. It offers fantastic fuel economy, in a combination with decent performance. However, even minivans aren’t a type of vehicle that should be fun to drive, they make long distances and most of them are on a highway, so some drivers would like a little bit more passing power. For comparison, rivals like Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey come with V6 engines that are notably more capable and offer better driving dynamics.

Toyota has a solution for this if we can trust rumors. Allegedly, the company will offer another hybrid powertrain. This time, it will be a plug-in hybrid setup, pretty much the same one that characterizes the RAV4 Prime. That would mean a combination of an inline-four engine and electric motor, for a total output of 302 horsepower. Of course, the engine would come in pair with a CVT and we estimate that the 0-60 time would go under six seconds. For comparison, the standard Hybrid Sienna needs two seconds more to hit the same speed.

On the other hand, base models will continue with a more affordable hybrid setup, which offers around 245 horsepower. That’s decent enough for most buyers, especially if we consider pretty impressive fuel economy. This powertrain returns around 36 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, which is impressive for a vehicle of this type.

On the other hand, the overall design will remain the same. We expect to see the same layout that was introduced last year. The new generation is based on the new TNGA platform and it offers a great balance between ride quality, comfort and efficiency. This minivan is easy to drive and quite maneuverable, despite its size. On the other hand, the suspension setup is soft and absorbs road imperfections in a pretty nice way.

Visually, the 2024 Toyota Sienna will continue to follow the brand’s new design language, as much as that’s possible with a minivan. All in all, the vehicle looks nice and appealing, so it’s hard to expect bigger changes for the next year. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options and similar things.

Interior

The same thing is with the interior design, where the current model already stands pretty well. It offers a very attractive design, as well as pretty good build quality, with nice materials and a lot of attention to detail. On the other hand, updates are possible in terms of new tech and convenience features. The officials are still quiet but rumors suggest a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Also, there’s a chance to see power-adjustable second-row captain’s chairs, as well as a dual power sunroof.

On the other hand, the seating configurations will remain the same. You may count on three rows of very spacious and comfortable seats, as well as on optional second-row captain’s chairs. In that case, the seating capacity drops to 7.

The cargo area will also remain the same. So, you may count on 33.5 cubic feet behind the third row, and 75.6 cubic feet behind the second. As we are talking about the hybrid vehicle, there’s a battery below the second-row seat, which doesn’t fold flat and can’t be physically removed. Therefore, the total cargo volume is smaller compared to the key competition and goes around 101 cubic feet.

2024 Toyota Sienna Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Sienna will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 35.000 dollars. Details about the PHEV are still unknown.

  1. I love my 2014 Sienna. I wish they would consider bring back the gas option instead of having them all hybrid. The cost of the replacement battery alone has me considering switching to the Odyssey. I’ve had 3 Siennas.
