A while ago, it was announced that the U.S. version of this mid-size SUV will be replaced with an all-electric SUV, while the Edge nameplate would continue on the Chinese market. However, the company doesn’t rush with discontinuing the current generation for obvious reasons. The sales numbers in 2022 were even better than the year before, which clearly indicates that the 2024 Ford Edge will be offered as well. Of course, we don’t expect to see more significant changes.
All this means that you may count on a familiar design, which still has a lot of good things to offer. We like Edge’s capable powertrain options, as well as a generous cabin space and intuitive infotainment system. Moreover, this SUV is easy to drive and offers a decent level of athleticism. On the other hand, subpar interior quality will remain the key drawback.
Since there will be no bigger changes, we presume that the 2024 Ford Edge will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Ford Edge Design
The current generation has been around since 2015 but still marks very good sales numbers. That’s why we don’t expect to see any change for the next year. This SUV rides on a good-old CD4 platform and comes with all-wheel drive in all variants. We’ve just mentioned that handling is surprisingly engaging for the class, while the ride also feels quite smooth and comfortable.
In terms of styling, not many things have changed since 2019. For that update, we saw all kinds of changes, including a completely new face, with a new grille, new headlights and more. The Edge looks conservative but attractive enough to attract a wide range of customers. That’s probably one of the main reasons why it still marks a solid sales record.
Interior
The same thing is with interior design. A few years ago, we saw updates that brought new infotainment system and other tech features but the overall layout hasn’t changed much since the initial launch. The cabin looks OK, but rivals like Honda Passport offer nicer interior materials and look more modern from the inside.
Still, the Edge has a couple of good things to offer, starting from a pretty spacious cabin. Both rows are spacious and accommodate adults with ease. Moreover, the front seats are decently shaped and offer good side support. The driving position is also pretty good, while the sound insulation isn’t bad at all.
The cargo area offers around 39.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 73.4 cubic feet of the total volume, which is pretty decent for a two-row mid-size SUV. Also, it’s good to know that you can opt for a hands-free power liftgate.
Features
Since this is going to be the final production year, we don’t believe that the 2024 Ford Edge could bring more important changes in terms of standard and available equipment. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and proximity keyless entry. Among available features, there are things like navigation, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, remote start, ambient LED interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 110-volt household-style power outlet, a universal garage door opener and a panoramic sunroof.
All models come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. Among options, you can find lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, front-view camera, rain-sensing wipers etc.
2024 Ford Edge Engines
Under the hood, the 2024 Ford Edge will continue with two familiar powertrain options. Therefore, base models will continue to use a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower and comes coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is also a notably more capable twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 335 horsepower and comes with a 7-speed automatic. All versions come standard with all-wheel drive, while max towing capacity goes up to 3.500 pounds.
In terms of fuel economy, the base turbo-four is good for about 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is very good for the class. On the other hand, the V6 offers typical fuel economy for the segment, with 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
2024 Ford Edge Release Date and Price
Since there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Ford Edge will arrive sometime late in the year. When it comes to the price, the current model starts at around 39.000 dollars and we don’t believe that the next year’s model could cost much more.
