2025 Toyota 4Runner Will Continue to Dominate With Completely New Design!

Although the current generation has been around since 2009, the 4Runner still marks impressive sales numbers. That’s probably the main reason why the world’s largest carmaker hasn’t been rushing with the redesign. However, everything comes to an end, and so does this generation of the rugged mid-size SUV. The Japanese carmaker is preparing a completely new model, which will finally arrive the next year, as the 2025 Toyota 4Runner. This is expected to be a pretty comprehensive redesign, with significant changes in various aspects.

From what we know so far, the next-generation 4Runner will ride on a completely new platform. Moreover, it will also get a completely new powertrain, including an electrified variant. Naturally, new styling is expected too, just like a new, way nicer interior. With all the modern features you would expect from today’s cars, the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner will certainly keep the sales numbers at the same level but if Toyota does things right, we could see further increase too.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Redesign

Considering the 4Runner’s reputation, the expectations from the upcoming redesign are huge. This is one of the last remaining genuine, body-on-frame SUVs on the market and from what we know so far, things will remain that way, thankfully. The new 2025 Toyota 4Runner is about to adopt the company’s new F1 platform, the same one that underpins the new generations of models like the Tundra and Sequoia. Of course, the platform would be downsized slightly on this occasion, as the new model will remain a mid-size SUV.

In any case, the upgrades should be significant. The new platform will make this SUV lighter, with a lower center of gravity, which should have a highly positive effect on handling. At the same time, the chassis should become even stiffer, while the new platform will also open up plenty of new possibilities, whether it’s about powertrain or other new technologies.

Exterior

Of course, the new exterior will have an important part in the upcoming redesign. Most likely, the new model won’t change the overall size much. The proportions should remain pretty similar, especially when it comes to the overall lengths. On the other hand, the new model might become slightly wider, while the wheelbase should be stretched. The latter is particularly important because it wouldn’t only improve passenger space, but it would also increase approach and departure angles.

Naturally, we will see a completely new styling. At this point, the company is still pretty successful in keeping aesthetical details a secret, but a few unofficial renderings appeared on the network. They all suggest a mix of 4Runner’s classic solutions, in combination with a couple of modern touches. The appearance should become more rugged and more aggressive, while there is no doubt that the model’s most capable off-roader, the TRD Pro will carry on with all those off-road upgrades, and maybe include even more. Moreover, we could even see a new Trailhunter trim, which has already been announced for the upcoming 2024 Tacoma.

Interior

As for interior design, the current generation can be criticized for many reasons. Simply, not many things have changed since 2009, so it’s no wonder that the cabin looks outdated. The materials aren’t particularly great, while the lack of modern tech and convenience features is pretty obvious too. So, the new model should improve significantly in all these aspects, especially when it comes to materials and tech features.

Moreover, the expected wheelbase stretching should also provide more passenger room, especially in the third row, which isn’t particularly generous. On the other hand, things with the cargo area probably won’t change much in terms of numbers, though we could see some more practical solutions, along with many more small storage compartments.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Engines

This is where some of the most significant changes are about to happen. Instead of the old 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V6, the new generation will most likely switch to a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which will offer similar power but way more torque. Some sources speculate about the 3.4-liter V6 turbo, which would feature a max output of around 350 horsepower.

Still, the most intriguing thing about the new 4Runner is the electrification. The new 2025 Toyota 4Runner will most likely come with a hybrid powertrain on offer. That system will either be based on a V6 or turbo-four engine, and we expect max output to go around 350 horsepower.

Also, the old 5-speed automatic will finally retire, and make room for a way more advanced 10-speed gearbox from Tundra and Sequoia.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year. Details are still unknown, but we estimate that base models could cost around 40.000 dollars.
