After the last year’s introduction of the all-new Land Cruiser 300, it looks like it’s time for the smaller iteration to get a full redesign. From what we can hear, the company is already working on a new model, which will probably come all-new the next year, as the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The Japanese carmaker is still doing a pretty good job of keeping details a secret, so there isn’t much information we can rely on at the moment. Still, some things are relatively easy to predict.
Of course, one of the certain things is the new platform, the TNGA-F architecture, which already serves as a basis for a variety of body-on-frame models. The new Prado will become more refined but it won’t lose any of its toughness. Naturally, we expect to see a completely new styling, a nicer interior and many other novelties with this redesign.
Allegedly, the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado could arrive already by the end of this year, while the North American iteration, in the form of Lexus GX, should arrive in 2024.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Design
The first thing that comes to mind about the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is the overall design. In this aspect, things won’t change radically. We will see a classic body-on-frame design, based on the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which should bring benefits in various aspects. The new Prado will be lighter and more efficient, and it will also feature a lower center of gravity. All these things will have a highly positive impact on the overall driving experience.
Naturally, the new model will come equipped with all kinds of off-road features, such as locking differentials, low-range gearing, hill-descent control etc. Some sources also speculate about a high-performance off-roader, which would come with further mechanical upgrades.
Exterior
When it comes to exterior design, there’s no doubt we will see a completely new styling. However, we don’t expect to see bigger changes in size. The LC300 kept the same wheelbase, so the Prado should do the same, in order to preserve high off-roading potential.
Back to the styling – we count on the implementation of the new design language. In other words, the front end should take some inspiration from the bigger sibling, especially when it comes to areas like headlights and grille, though there is no doubt that there will also be a good portion of exclusive styling solutions. In any case, we expect that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will look more aggressive and more rugged, but we also believe it won’t lose any of its elegance.
Interior
If you look at the current model’s interior, there is really nothing to complain about. It may look a little bit old but the overall build quality is impressive. The materials are nice, but the attention to detail is out of this word. Therefore, the only thing Toyota designers need to do is to offer a little bit more modern cabin look. Other than that, things should remain at the same level. Naturally, we also count on new tech features, including an infotainment screen, various connectivity features etc.
On the other hand, the seating configuration shouldn’t change much. Considering that the wheelbase is about to remain the same, while the overall size won’t change much either, we are pretty sure that the amount of passenger space will also remain very similar. In practice, this would mean a couple of comfortable rows of seats and a pretty tight third row.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Engines
When it comes to powertrain, various sources suggest interesting upgrades. First of all, the currently most common choice, the 2.8-liter four-cylinder will carry on. However, it is possible to see it in a combination with a mild-hybrid setup.
Some sources also suggest that the new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel from the LC300 could be offered, with a max output of 227kW (304hp). Also, we count on new gasoline options. The large 4.0-liter V6 should be replaced with a 2.4-liter turbo-four that puts out around 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. A hybrid version, based on the same engine, is also expected, with a combined output of around 350 horsepower.
Of course, we also count on a new transmission. The current 6-speed unit will probably be replaced with the new 10-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Release Date
At this point, the officials are still quiet, but it is believed that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado could arrive already by the end of this year.
