Big things are happening these days in Toyota, as the whole body-on-frame lineup is getting a complete overhaul. Models like the Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX have already been redesigned, while we are now waiting for smaller SUVs to get a complete redesign. This includes the Prado as well, which will come all-new in the next year. It will debut as the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and if we consider that the current generation has been around since 2009, it’s pretty obvious that the number of changes will be significant.
This redesign will bring a full load of novelties. First of all, we will see the company’s new platform, known as the TNGA-F, which will bring improvements in various aspects. Of course, we count on the new exterior design, as well as on a new interior. Significant updates are expected under the hood as well, as there are several new powertrains to come, according to the manufacturer.
The all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, this redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties. First of all, the new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will ride on the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which already underpins the new Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX, Toyota Sequoia etc. It will bring improvements in various aspects, starting from improved on-road comfort and overall ride quality. Also, the new platform should save some weight and improve efficiency.
Despite that the focus will be on improving on-road ride quality, we have no doubt that the new model will retain and even improve its already world-class off-road performance. All models will come standard with four-wheel drive, center locking differential, various traction modes etc. On the other hand, higher trim levels will bring goodies like front and rear locking differentials, further suspension upgrades etc.
When it comes to exterior design, the first thing we should talk about is the size. From what we know so far, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado won’t change much in this aspect. Simply, the company wants to keep off-road potential at the same level, so the wheelbase will remain the same or very similar. In any case, it will go around 110 inches.
The overall shape shouldn’t change much either, as we are talking about a classic SUV layout. On the other hand, the aesthetics will be based on the company’s new design language and we are pretty sure that a lot of things will be shared with the new Land Cruiser 300, especially at the front.
The current interior features excellent build quality. However, it looks a little bit outdated, so there is no doubt that the company will bring up completely new aesthetics. At this point, we don’t know how the new dashboard is going to look but we are pretty sure it will bring finer materials and even better build quality. Furthermore, we count on lots of new tech features, which will make the new cabin look even more attractive. Of course, this refers to the new infotainment system, as well as various modern connectivity features.
On the other hand, we already talked about the size, which will probably remain the same. Therefore, you may count on three rows of seats, where the third row won’t be particularly spacious and should work best for kids. On the other hand, the first two rows will be spacious and comfortable, accommodating adults with ease.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Engines
Big things are expected under the hood as well. First of all, base models will most likely carry on with the same, recently-updated 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which is the main choice in Europe and Australia. That engine puts out around 150 kW (201 horsepower) and 500Nm of torque and we expect to see it in pair with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
Some sources also speculate about Toyota’s new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel, which already debuted in the LC 300. However, the biggest novelty will be a hybrid powertrain, as this will be the first electrified Land Cruiser ever. We count on a system that’s based on a turbo-four engine, which will feature a combined output of around 350 horsepower.
Finally, we expect that the good-old 4.0-liter V6 will be replaced with a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which will feature a max output of around 275 horsepower.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will arrive sometime in the second half of the next year. It will be offered across the globe, in various markets of Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, South America etc. North America will probably be the only part of the world where this model won’t be offered.
